I fill my life with stories.
I copyedit and proofread novels for a living. I also read a lot in my free time. My favorite nonreading hobby is video games, and I mostly stick to story-focused, single-player experiences. Every evening, my wife and I unwind by watching TV. On weekends we often opt for movies, and our favorite thing to go out and do together is see movies in the theater. I’m a big music nerd, and I especially enjoy the storytelling element of songs and albums. I also seek out the stories behind the stories, how my favorites are made and the stories of their creators.
Stories give us something to look forward to. They help us process the world. They give us mental and emotional distance from life’s challenges, recharge our batteries, so we can face tomorrow in a healthier manner. They provide a means of escape from reality by allowing us to be someone else, go somewhere else, experience new things. We gain a broader perspective of life. By digging deeper into what interests us, we’re able to gain a better understanding of why we like what we like. We understand ourselves better.
The world can never have too many stories, and I have one of the best jobs because I get to help people put theirs out into the world.
