Chapbooks Defined

Last week I posted about the release of a chapbook I worked on. But what exactly are chapbooks?

They’re typically short books produced inexpensively, though there are examples of high-end chapbooks. Chapbooks actually date back to the 16th century and have included everything from almanacs, ballads, and children’s literature to folklore, nursery rhymes, poetry, and religious tracts.

It’s also worth noting that chapbooks often have different binding than most modern books. They can be bound by stitching; they can be stapled; they can even just be folded.

My friends in the UK may know them better as pamphlets.

Now you know!
