For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been obsessed with video games. It is far and away my favorite hobby, entertainment medium, art form, and escape. But my love for games goes beyond just being a fan. I try to incorporate this passion into my professional life by seeking out projects that are either games themselves or pertain to them.
Growing up, video game magazines (Gameinformer especially) were staple reads for me. A couple of years ago I had the honor of being the copyeditor for a short-lived one. This was a dream come true. When the project ended, I was then brought on to copyedit a tri-weekly games newsletter. This newsletter didn’t end up lasting long either, but both projects gave me experience in applying my professional abilities to a topic that is near and dear to me. Another example of this is something I’m still actively involved in; I’m a continuity editor for a company that produces text games.
A piece of advice I was given when beginning my editing career was to find my niche. The primary niche I work in is certainly fiction, but I also want to be known for working in games. I’m always actively seeking opportunities to work in the video game industry. If you’re working on a game of any kind, or know someone who is, feel free to contact me. Even if it’s not an actual game but is related to the medium, believe me, I’m still interested.
