I haven’t been shy about the fact that 2024 was the best year of my professional career as an editor.
But freelancers are always looking toward the next thing. We’re always hungry. I’ve already got three manuscripts hard scheduled for early next year, and several soft ones that I’m waiting for confirmation on. That being said, I’d love to work with new clients as well. I primarily copyedit and proofread fiction, so if you’re a fiction writer, I’d love to chat about working together.
Because it’s the holidays, just for fun, here are three of my favorite topics I enjoy working on above all else. I’m open to most any fiction, but these are my favorite “flavors” if you will.
Video games. My first love. If you’ve got a story inspired by games or uses concepts often found in games, I want to work with you. Video games are the best.
Japan. I love Japanese culture and find myself constantly drawn to its art forms. If you’ve got a story set in Japan or is inspired by it in any way, I want to work with you.
Fantasy. My favorite genre to work on and definitely what I work on more than anything else. I love the endless possibilities of fantasy worlds. A character just died? I’m sure they can be resurrected in some unexpected way. A character’s sword is twice as long as their body? Absolutely. Be it classic fantasy with castles and dragons or something more unique, I want to work with you on your fantasy story.
If you choose to hire me as your editor or proofreader, I read through your manuscript three times and create a detailed style sheet to ensure consistency. I am well versed in Chicago style and do freelance work for several publishers in addition to working with clients independently. I also provide a free sample edit in order for us to determine if we’re a good fit for each other.
I’m closing out 2024 with the mindset that 2025 will be even better for me, and that’s a tall order with how much I worked this year, but I really love what I do.
