It is common for people to wonder about their purpose in life. The Japanese have a concept called ikigai, which refers to this very idea. They believe you can begin to understand your ikigai by answering four questions:
What is your passion?
What are you good at?
What does the world need from you?
I by no means have everything figured out (nowhere close!), but I do believe that becoming an editor has set me on the right path to fulfilling my ikigai. I mentioned video games in my previous post (and I plan to do more of that in the future). If I can successfully merge my love for video games with my editing profession, I think I will have fulfilled my ikigai. And I’m on the right track.
