Last week I posted about how over the moon I was about the cover reveal for Carcrash Parker by Ian M. Rogers, a book I copyedited earlier this year for Vine Leaves Press. Today I want to talk a bit about why I love this book so much.
Like the many pop culture tales it references, Carcrash Parker is a delightful adventure into a land of fantasy… except that land of fantasy happens to be New Hampshire in 2009 and the heroes and villains are larpers locked in an epic conflict over a retro video game console.
Though it always has one foot in the imaginary, with magic spells and stolen relics, at the heart of this story is a very relatable exploration of truth and how it can be twisted, all told in a manner that’s equal parts gravitas and absurdity in the vein of something like Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The way in which Ian spins this tale is just as enthralling as the tale itself, the result being one of those rare occasions where the narrator is also the best character.
Whether you’re a fan of literary fiction, fantasy, humor, or pop culture, Carcrash Parker receives my highest possible praise and recommendation.
You can preorder the book directly from Ian’s webstore here (and doing so soon can even net you a few extra goodies): https://butialsohaveadayjob.bigcartel.com/
If this sounds up your alley, I hope you check it out. This is genuinely one of the best stories I’ve ever had the honor of working on, and Ian is such a nice guy.
