Let’s Learn a New Word (5/24/21)

I’ve got a doozy of a new word today. Dogsbody. (This word is obviously British.) If you look up dogsbody in Merriam-Webster, you are redirected to drudge. As a noun, a drudge is defined as one who is obliged to do menial work or whose work is routine and boring. It also means menial or tedious labor. As a verb, it means to do or force someone to do hard, menial, monotonous work.

Here’s how I came across this word: My wife and I were watching The Black Adder and upon looking up some more info about the show, I came across the term as describing one of the characters. I had never heard of such a thing but knew it was a British-ism before I even looked it up.
