“Laconic”

I just learned the word “laconic” and thought it would be a good one to share today.

According to Merriam-Webster, “laconic” means using or involving the use of a minimum of words; concise to the point of seeming rude or mysterious.

I was reading something about the Halo franchise, and the series protagonist was referred to as being “laconic.” I had no idea what this meant, but after looking up the definition, it made sense, as this character doesn’t speak much.

This term might be useful for authors out there who are crafting such characters, and could also help an editor (like me) in coming up with a useful descriptor.
