I’ve talked before about how important it is to maintain continuity throughout a story, but I haven’t elaborated on just how much experience I have with this kind of work. In addition to all the copyediting and proofreading I do (both of which require a lot of checking for continuity), I also do freelance work for a company called Choice of Games. The work I do for them is specifically continuity editing.
Choice of Games produces multiple-choice text games. These experiences focus on player choice; there are multiple paths throughout each game. I read through various paths to ensure that no matter which choice a player makes, the continuity of the story doesn’t break. It’s fun work, in many ways it’s easier than copyediting, and I love that it’s still related to the other editing work I do in that my skills in paying close attention to detail are put at the forefront. I make notes as I go, similar to what I do while proofreading, except here I’m mostly focused on story details.
It feels good catching little mistakes and ensuring these experiences are up to the quality that players expect. And the stories themselves are very good too. If you are at all interested, you should check out their website at https://www.choiceofgames.com/
Video games have been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, and I am honored to freelance for and lend my skills to a company bringing a niche genre of games to the market.
If you’re writing a book, I’d love to help ensure your continuity is strong throughout. Please reach out to me today.
